2009 Coring Project

We drilled ten sites at seven saline lakes in southern Western Australia and obtained ~200 meters of core. Core processing was done at the Joe Lord Core Library at the Geological Survey of Western Australia. We are currently performing mineralogical and geochemical, sedimentological and petrographic, paleontological, and geochronological analyses on these cores. Our objective is to interpret past environments, past life, and past climate from these cores to allow us to understand the evolution of these acid saline lakes and groundwaters.
